First unveiled during AW26, Melitta Baumeister’s collaboration with Nike now reaches the public, translating her sculptural language into a high-performance sneaker shaped by movement, material and instinct.

A shoe that first appeared in motion now enters circulation. When Melitta Baumeister presented her AW26 collection in New York, the collaboration with Nike extended her exploration of the body into footwear, introducing a reworked Vomero Premium defined by inflated volumes, molten surfaces and a radical sense of tactility. That runway moment becomes product with a dual timeline: first available on April 1 through her own platform, followed by a wider global rollout on April 8 via Nike and selected retailers.

The design builds on Baumeister’s ongoing investigation of protection, softness and expansion. The Vomero Premium shifts away from the streamlined codes of performance running into something more ambiguous, where cushioning becomes visible and almost excessive, and the upper appears sculpted rather than engineered. Textures evoke erosion, heat and compression, pushing the sneaker towards an object that moves between sportswear and wearable sculpture.

This transition from showpiece to retail object preserves the conceptual core of the collection. The idea of running ‘like no one’s watching’, introduced alongside the presentation, frames movement as a private, instinctive act rather than a performance. That approach aligns with Baumeister’s broader practice, where garments resist fixed readings and instead respond to the body in flux.

Positioned within Nike’s ongoing dialogue with fashion designers, the collaboration reflects a growing interest in forms that challenge conventional athletic aesthetics while remaining grounded in technical innovation. The Vomero Premium retains its performance DNA, yet its visual language opens it to a different kind of audience, one attuned to experimentation and material expression.
