There are days when images arrive before ideas. Days when all it takes is getting together, stepping into the studio and letting something happen. No defined plan, no story to follow, no need to know exactly what we are looking for.
Photographed in Madrid with Linda Bubkamp, this editorial was born from a desire to create without having too many answers. To share a space, experiment and allow intuition to lead the way. Curiosity led us to explore different silhouettes, textures and shapes through styling, playing with contrasts and allowing colour and black and white to coexist as two different ways of looking at the same reality.
There was no fixed narrative, nor any intention of reaching a particular destination. Just the desire to try things out, discover and learn along the way. To observe how a silhouette changes, how a texture takes on a different presence, or how the absence of colour can reveal something that might otherwise have gone unnoticed.
Sometimes, creating is precisely about that: moving forward without having all the answers, trusting an intuition we cannot always explain, and finding something of our own in the unexpected. Looking, experimenting, making mistakes, starting over. Letting one image lead us to another without asking too many questions about why.
Perhaps growing as a photographer also means learning to trust that space. Trusting the eye we have gradually developed, almost without realising it, and the processes we are still discovering. Understanding that we do not always need an extraordinary idea to begin, nor an explanation to justify what we do.
Sometimes, it is enough for the images to become traces of a shared moment, an open-ended exploration and a desire to keep creating. A way of reminding myself why I started taking photographs in the first place: out of curiosity, for the pleasure of it, and for that quiet thrill of not knowing exactly what will appear on the other side of the camera. – Mauro Testa
