An embroidered calendar becomes a conceptual map, tracing the internal logic of Maison Margiela through its numbered lines, archives and evolving structure.
After the title gesture of the project, the introduction unfolds through Maison Margiela, whose own channels invite viewers to follow Les 12 jours Margiela. Conceived as a reinterpretation of the festive countdown, the initiative takes the form of an embroidered cotton calendar drawn from the house’s archives. Each number connects to one of Margiela’s lines, transforming a familiar seasonal object into a system of meaning.
Numbers have long functioned as a language within the house. Here, they articulate history, structure and identity with clarity. Line 0 refers to the Artisanal collection, anchoring the project in the maison’s haute couture practice and its origins in 1989. The logic extends beyond categorisation, using numbering as a way to hold together diverse practices under a single visual grammar.
Other numbers unfold the structure of the house in sequence. Line 1 is dedicated to womenswear, followed by Line 2, conceived as a space for dialogue between fashion and culture. Line 3 marks fragrances, while Line 4 outlines an essential women’s wardrobe. Line 6 identifies MM6 and its distinct approach to wearability, before Line 8 turns to eyewear. The structure continues with Line 10 for menswear, Line 11 for accessories and Line 13 for objects and publications, then moves to Line 14, defining the men’s wardrobe, and Line 22, which returns to footwear through the iconic Tabi boots. Each line remains anchored to a specific moment while coexisting within the same visual grammar.
The embroidery operates as documentation rather than decoration, connecting numbers to memory and continuity. Through Les 12 jours Margiela, continuity becomes the central theme, positioning fashion as a network of ideas that accumulate, overlap and remain open to reinterpretation. The calendar reads as an invitation to understand the house through its codes, its archives and its capacity to evolve from within.
