A single garment becomes a system of variation, where uniform, ornament and exposure keep changing the way we read the body.
A skirt can belong to daily life and carry decades of fashion history. That tension shapes Prada Spring Summer 2027, where Miuccia Prada and Raf Simons explore one of the wardrobe’s most familiar forms across 63 looks.
The idea has history. In 2006, Prada told Ingrid Sischy that “the skirt for me is like a T shirt”, describing it as a uniform, easy to wear and open to eccentricity. Two years earlier, ‘Waist Down’, the exhibition conceived with AMO, had already isolated the skirt as an object for continuous reinterpretation.
That logic returns in ‘The Skirt’. Wrap constructions are fixed with oversized Velcro and covered in crystals. Crinoline moves from hidden structure to visible surface. Re Nylon is pleated, cotton resembles leather or suede, while florals, plaids, ribbons and painterly motifs alter familiar silhouettes.
Styling shifts their meaning again. Crewnecks bring an everyday quality, shirts introduce utility and tiny bra tops expose the body. Fabric, construction and proportion give the same form a different character in each look.
Repetition becomes the engine of the collection. Across 63 variations, the skirt works as a framework flexible enough to carry decoration, function, exposure and individual expression while remaining instantly recognisable.
