Fragmented fabrics, embroidered love letters and delicate constructions bring Caroline Hú’s SS27 collection to life, exploring the darker side of fairy tales and the beauty of imperfection.

Fairy tales often begin with a departure from the familiar. In Caroline Hú’s latest collection for Reverie by Caroline Hú, presented during Paris Fashion Week, a young girl leaves home, crosses a hidden passage and steps through a magical mirror into a world shaped by memory, desire and imagination. Entitled ‘Fairy Tales’, the collection explores what happens when childhood innocence encounters the imperfections of reality.
Inside a faded Parisian mansion, models inhabited living tableaux surrounded by deteriorating walls, bears and insects. Wild, dishevelled hairstyles reinforced the dreamlike atmosphere, with unruly strands seemingly escaping the rules of reason and conventional beauty.
The narrative extended into the garments. Canvas layered with handmade lace and paint recreated the texture of damaged walls, while hand-beaded ants appeared to devour a structured jacket. Patchworked coats, fragmented lace and deconstructed floral dresses suggested objects rescued from different lives. Embroidered love letters, some addressed to the designer herself, introduced a personal dimension to the collection.
Hú’s romantic vocabulary of lace, flowers and delicate surfaces took on a darker character through signs of wear, decay and imperfection. The intricate construction of each piece transformed these apparent flaws into expressions of beauty.
