The domestic surrealism of Ashley Williams

Echoes of 1980s bedrooms and the eerie presence of Carol Anne from ‘Poltergeist’ shape Ashley Williams’s Fall/Winter 2026 collection, where household objects and dream house furniture transform into garments.

Bedroom furniture, household objects and nostalgic interiors become garments and accessories, forming a cast of characters that reflects the different roles people inhabit across private and social spaces. Ashley Williams presented her Fall/Winter 2026 collection during London Fashion Week, continuing her exploration of domestic life as a site of identity, imagination and performance. Through playful construction, surreal styling and a palette reminiscent of the blurred tones of an old VHS tape, the London designer transforms the familiar landscape of the home into a theatrical fashion narrative.

Domestic objects migrate directly into clothing. Plasticky headboards cinch tulle skirts, toilet paper rolls appear as bracelets and quilted cardigans reveal scalloped bedspreads emerging from their centres. Williams develops the collection through a sequence of character studies: a nurturing grandparent appears in a faux fur lined houndstooth jacket, while a girl dressed for a ballet recital wears skull and crossbones mittens with layered tulle skirts in acid yellow and baby pink.

Prints remain central to the designer’s visual language. The recurring “I <3 ME” motif returns across hospital gowns, tracksuits, drop waist dresses and housecoats, joined by upholstery style florals, sleeping cats, woodland centaurs and scattered pills. Signature pieces such as the “bedtime trousers” appear in satin with lace trims, while heavier wool and synthetic materials evoke the sheen of 1980s lingerie, fleece layers and reflective sportswear details.

Styling by Danny Reed pushes the collection further into surreal territory. Velcro cut out boots hover somewhere between go go footwear and orthopedic slippers, worn with thick socks and blue rinse shag wigs. Toy like jewellery and hair accessories created with YVMIN reinforce the dreamlike atmosphere that runs through the collection.
