Presented during Paris Fashion Week, Eyes Wide Souk marks the beginning of TALEL‘s new cultural project, an initiative that extends the Paris-based design studio’s practice beyond accessories into artistic collaboration. Commissioned by founder Leila Roukni and created with photographer and researcher PZ Opassuksatit, the multidisciplinary project offers an intimate portrait of the people, rituals and forms of labour that shape everyday life in Marrakech.

Eyes Wide Souk focuses on what often escapes attention. Through photography, moving image, interviews, collected objects and installation, the project follows four individuals whose daily work exists at the intersection of craftsmanship, care, performance and survival. A series of simple yet revealing questions about work, knowledge, routine and identity form the foundation of the research, uncovering the personal histories and quiet gestures that sustain communities.
The resulting works reveal the poetry embedded in repetition: hands folding msemen before sunrise, porters navigating crowded streets, fading henna patterns that exist only briefly on the skin, and performers balancing fascination with danger. These everyday acts become symbols of resilience and cultural memory, shifting the focus from spectacle to the rhythms that define ordinary life.

For TALEL, the project reflects a broader commitment to material research, craftsmanship and contemporary storytelling. Founded in Paris by Leila Roukni, the studio approaches design as a way of exploring cultural narratives, encouraging audiences to look beyond the surface of an object or a place and reconsider the stories embedded within it. Eyes Wide Souk captures that philosophy with sensitivity, inviting viewers to slow down and discover the overlooked moments that quietly shape Marrakech’s identity.
Presented alongside the installation, TALEL also unveiled its latest collection, continuing its exploration of materiality through collaborations with jewelry artist ESKY SAFRASH and new interpretations of the label’s signature Triangle Bag. Together, the collection and Eyes Wide Souk demonstrate how fashion, art and craft can intersect to create narratives that are as thoughtful as they are visually compelling.
