Metamorphosis takes over the face. At Chopova Lowena, Simone Rocha and McQueen, horns, flowers and feathers transform familiar features into a strange fantasy.

London Fashion Week returned to one of its most characteristic territories this spring summer 2027: experimentation. Folklore, baroque painting, rave culture and British subcultures moved across the schedule, while beauty carried those narratives across faces and bodies into a territory connected to the natural world, the animal and the otherworldly.

A supernatural universe drawn from Slavic folklore runs through Chopova Lowena and ‘Lucky Spirit Lost Strike’, with figures such as Baba Yaga, Kikimora and Marzanna in the background. Feather like lashes, leafy markings, gelatinous tears and flushed cheeks bring that mythology onto the face, alongside braids and coloured extensions.

Simone Rocha

Flowers seem to grow directly from the face in Simone Rocha. Inspired by Caravaggio’s ‘The Taking of Christ’, eyebrows are covered in tiny beaded flowers, lips take on a deep, flocked red finish and velvet reaches the nails. The textures of the collection simply continue from clothing to skin.

McQueen

Sacred imagery and rave culture meet in McQueen. Hair rises into monumental silver horns, the eyes are surrounded by bruised purples and electric blues, and metallic nails seem to drip from the fingertips.

That same London spirit, where historical references collide with digital culture and urban tribes, can also surface in smaller gestures of self expression, with glam as one possible space for that expression.
