Maria Grazia Chiuri looks to one of fashion’s earliest cinematic experiments to shape a Cruise 2027 collection built around connection, fluidity and shared identities.

A dream unfolds between past and present. For Cruise 2027, Fendi and creative director Maria Grazia Chiuri present ‘Beyond the Mirror’, a collection and short film that revisit the house’s cinematic legacy through a contemporary lens.

Built around Chiuri’s idea of “Less I, more us”, the collection proposes a wardrobe shaped by connection and exchange. Fluid tailoring, soft suiting, georgette dresses and shared silhouettes blur traditional distinctions between menswear and womenswear, while the recurring Tree of Life motif points towards community and coexistence.

The collection also revisits the archive. A studded version of the iconic Baguette from Spring/Summer 2001 returns in black parchment, a historic Fendi material originally used for luggage. Neutral tones dominate, interrupted by metallic finishes and bold red leather looks.

The accompanying film draws inspiration from ‘Histoire d’Eau’, the 1977 short directed by Jacques de Bascher for Karl Lagerfeld’s first ready-to-wear collection for Fendi. Often regarded as one of fashion’s earliest films, it serves as the starting point for a new story suspended between memory and fantasy.

Wandering through empty interiors and dreamlike spaces, the film’s protagonist moves between past and present, transforming architecture, reflection and movement into a meditation on time. Together, the collection and film position Fendi’s history as a living archive, continually reinterpreted for the present.
