Repair as transformation. Chaos turned into craft. And the future, collectively pieced together.
Repair as transformation. Chaos turned into craft. And the future, collectively pieced together.

This year in Barcelona, the SUSTAINABLE CHALLENGE returns like a quiet jolt to the system — the kind you feel before you realize something is shifting. For its seventh edition, MODAFAD dives into Collective Mending, a theme that sounds soft on the surface but cuts deep: a reminder that fashion’s future depends not on endless novelty, but on how we repair, rework, and reimagine what already exists.
Across four intense, unruly days inside the Disseny Hub Barcelona, 30 students from schools all over Europe met in a space humming with energy — half workshop, half laboratory, half controlled chaos. They sifted through discarded garments like archaeologists of the present, turning forgotten pieces into raw material for a new aesthetic language. Thread by thread, they built a dialogue where sustainability isn’t a trend but a tool, and mending becomes a creative rebellion, a small act of defiance against disposability.

These final looks are the culmination of that shared experiment — part manifesto, part metamorphosis. Every stitch feels like a conversation between hands, ideas, and techniques; every silhouette, a reminder that transformation doesn’t require starting from zero. In their work, you can sense a collective rhythm: the tension of tearing apart, the tenderness of repairing, the thrill of making something once discarded feel urgent again.
This is fashion as renewal, as resistance, as reawakening. A future assembled from remnants — and imagined together.
