«Remnant: The trace as origin of creation»
This project by fashion designer Jaume Cid García explores the re-signification of fashion through a minimal change in its configuration, inspired by the concept of “terrain vague” in architecture. Empty spaces in cities raise questions about their past, present, and future, offering possibilities for interpretation and appropriation. This study applies that perspective to fashion, seeking the “limbos” within a garment: elements that, when slightly altered, transform its perception and use.
The aim of the research is to revalue the meaning we assign to empty space, to the preconceived notion of an old wall or an abandoned lot as something dirty or neglected. The goal of the project is to cleanse this conception and represent the trace as a clean element, giving value to an entirely different initial idea.
Through the transformation of garments, their manipulation and modification can give rise to new ways of conceiving the most classic aspects of a piece, such as its collar, its dimensions, or even its seams.
This research focuses not only on analyzing fashion as a tool for visual expression but also aims to find ways to alter the creative process, generating new means of expression and building a new discourse.
