The city is both modern and ancient. New and old converge in a dialogue in which neither argument invalidates the other. One essence is a continuation of the other and they fit together perfectly in the conjugation of Copenhagen as what it is, a city that captivates those who visit it, like the sirens with their voices to the sailors.
It is in this energy that arises when opposites meet that Caroline Engelgaar wanted to reflect her new MKDT collection, which is the reason she chose the hall of the MKD museum. The same thread drives the music that would be played during the show, a mix of metallic sounds combined with the organic notes of a young pianist.
We discovered the collection backstage. An anteroom that runs in silence with abundant natural light. On the floor was a soft white blanket, so pure that was a shame to walk on. The looks explored new silhouettes through layering, as well as the electric pulse that visually drives the garments. Wonderful volumes are created with movement and pleats, also through leather details interacting with the different materials found in the designs. As for the colors that determined the collection, they were base neutrals with rich bark brown, mink mélange, deep brown, alabaster, and anthracite. Fitted waists and rounded shoulders for both men’s and womenswear silhouettes made these lines just a continuation from one another, merging and looking alike while being the same different thing.
The whole inspiration behind it drew on the work of Zimoun, a Swiss sound artist who articulates a tension between orderly patterns and the chaotic forces of life. «This season, we were intrigued by friction – a concept both physical and emotional, where surfaces meet, materials interact, and opposites collide. It is the spark of movement, the sound of repetition, and the energy that transforms discomfort into harmony».
