The LOEWE FOUNDATION Craft Prize heads to Milan for its tenth edition, revisiting a decade of artistic approaches to traditional craftsmanship.

A decade after its first edition in Madrid, the LOEWE FOUNDATION Craft Prize heads to Milan, where it will celebrate its tenth edition during Milan Design Week in 2027. The award ceremony will take place on April 11, followed by an exhibition running from April 12 to 28, showcasing the 30 shortlisted works.
Established in 2016 and first awarded in Madrid in 2017, the prize draws inspiration from LOEWE’s origins as an artisanal workshop. Over the past decade, it has travelled to cities including London, Tokyo, Paris, Seoul, New York and Singapore, establishing an international platform for contemporary craftsmanship.
At the heart of the initiative is the relationship between technical mastery and artistic vision. Spanning disciplines such as ceramics, textiles, jewellery, glass, leather, wood and metalwork, the prize recognises artisans who reinterpret traditional knowledge through experimentation, innovation and a distinctive personal language. Each work reflects the creative possibilities of materials and the individual vision of its maker.
For its tenth edition, an expert panel will select 30 finalists whose works demonstrate originality, exceptional execution and artistic ambition. An international jury of 15 figures from art, design, architecture and museum curatorship, including Patricia Urquiola, Frida Escobedo, Magdalene Odundo and LOEWE creative directors Jack McCollough and Lazaro Hernandez, will determine the winner, who will receive €50,000.
The 2026 edition recognised South Korean artist Jongjin Park for ‘Strata of Illusion’, while special mentions went to Baba Tree Master Weavers x Álvaro Catalán de Ocón and Graziano Visintin, reflecting the diversity of practices celebrated by the award.
Beyond the annual competition, the foundation continues to document this creative landscape through The Room, its digital archive featuring more than 3,200 works by Craft Prize alumni.

With submissions open until October 15, 2026, the anniversary edition offers professional artisans worldwide another opportunity to participate in a growing international conversation about the future of making. Ten years on, the Craft Prize continues to celebrate the transformative potential of craftsmanship and its place within contemporary culture.
